- Undergraduate Admission requirements.
All undergraduate degree applicants must demonstrate the completion of a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED). Applicants are eligible for admission at the upper-division undergraduate level by meeting one of the following criteria:
- Possession of an Associate Degree.
- Completion of 60 semester or 90 quarter credits of study, including the general education requirements.
Satisfaction of the above criteria will be determined by an in-depth evaluation conducted by Newport International University consisting of formal education, specialized training, or military education.

- Master Degree
An individual is eligible for admission at the Master’s level by meeting one of the following criteria
- Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree.
- Possession of a Master’s Degree.
- Course Credits from an accredited masters program at another institution.
- Doctoral Degree
An individual is eligible for admission at the Doctoral level by meeting one of the following criteria
- Possession of a Master’s Degree from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation is required for admission to any NIU doctoral program. No transfer credits are accepted at the doctoral level.
- At the time of admission, each student will be assigned a three to five member Graduate Committee of members from the local Learning Center at which he or she is enrolled. The Graduate Committee will approve the student’s program of studies, provide guidance during the course of the program, approve the dissertation topic, review all examinations, and conduct a defense and/or final oral at a site to be determined by the committee. The Ph.D. may include a Special Graduate Committee administrative fee as determined by the international site director.
International Admission Requirements
International applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English by satisfying one of the following requirements:
- Submit official results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum score of 525 for undergraduate study or 540 for graduate study;
- Submit official transcripts stating the student’s completion of six (6) semester hours (or equivalent) of college-level English (excluding English as a Second Language [ESL] courses) with a grade of “B” or higher; or
- Submit documentation that the student has successfully completed courses conducted in the English language with a grade of “B” or better.
- Student has studied in an English speaking country as evidenced by a transcript.
Foreign Student Admission and Visa Services
The University does not provide any immigration status sponsorship or any type of student visa (INS Form I-20). Students who have obtained student visas while attending other American colleges or universities in the United States cannot maintain their student visa status based on enrollment at Newport International University. |
